I am Vincent Twomey, a sports journalist. On this page you will find an example of an article I wrote for a major online sports magazine.
Federico Macheda is an Italian footballer born on 22 August 1991 in Rome. He started his professional career with Manchester United, before playing for many other teams in Italy, Spain, Greece and Switzerland. Federico Macheda's career has been up and down and he is now considered a forgotten footballer. This article examines the career of Federico Macheda, from his early promise to his decline.
He started his professional career at Manchester United in 2008, aged just 17. He played for United until 2014, then went on loan to various clubs before returning to United in 2016. However, he was sacked from the club in 2018 and has since had a relatively poor career, playing for second and third division clubs in Italy.
He is currently without a club, and his last known home was in India, where he played for Kerala Blasters in the Indian Super League. Macheda largely disappeared from the footballing landscape during his time in India and, whatever he does next, he seems to be well away from football.
Admittedly, to say Federico Macheda was a flop is perhaps a little harsh after just one goal in 23 games for QPR, as there are many far worse examples; QPR were also relegated at the end of that season. Macheda's career was at a standstill before that, when he failed to make an impact on loan, but not as much as during his spells at Cardiff City and Novara. But what about those other players who have been labelled flops? Perhaps they fared even worse than Federico during their time in England.
He faces not only the cruel slings and arrows of excessive fortune, but also the weight of history. Macheda is, after all, the author of 'that' goal: the one that decided the title race in 2008 on the final day of the season, when his late goal gave Manchester United a 3-2 win over Aston Villa. That moment made him, for a time, the most talked-about teenager in football. Stade rennais this Friday at Stade Metz The British club is adored around the world and especially in Italy. His fans chanted his name at the Electric Daisy Carnival in Rome a few days ago, recalls the player, where "the happiness I see on their faces when they chant my name is huge," he explains before adding that at the club, "it's important to please the fans.
The Italian striker, however, has made sincere comments revealing his real difficulties in the face of the criticism, judgments and low blows he has been subjected to over the past year, when he has been able to give few answers to his detractors. It all started during the Russian World Cup and when Balotelli was caught up in the turmoil of not being selected in the 23 of the boss Didier Deschamps, precisely because of his "human" side could have disturbed the balance of the men who are going to compete for a world trophy thirty-two teams between June and July in front of millions of spectators.
